You’re invited to celebrate the 225 Anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution

Friends, Brethren, Countrymen…You’re invited to celebrate the 225 Anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution.

This second annual Redlands Constitution Day Celebration event will take place in front of the Lincoln Memorial Shrine from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2012. This fun, free, educational event was created for kids of all ages, even those that are just kids at heart. Bring a couple of lawn chairs and a blanket and make a day of it. Several favorites are back this year, but we have added many new excitements this year to Constitution Day 2012.

At the opening ceremony the American flag will be raised and the Mountain Fifes and Drums – dressed in their period American Revolution uniforms and complete with their authentic recreation instruments and muskets – will do a thrilling musket firing demonstration. A highlight to not miss is getting your free picture taken with George Washington himself. Our first U.S. President will be setting up camp with the Sons of the American Revolution and their replica encampment that kids can explore. After stepping back in time from ColoniaAmerica, kids can get a free balloon and KTIE Child I.D. Kit (sponsored by Craig and Sons Termite and Pest Control). The kid’s craft table is being sponsored this year by Color Me Mine (while supplies last). Make a patriotic creation to give as a gift or one to treasure for years to come. Next, visit the All-American Car Show located onFourth Streetand vote for your favorite vintage vehicle. Fun games and activities await those who want to learn a little about the U.S. Constitution and also get a prize. Play our new Preamble Scramble or follow a scavenger hunt of facts about the U.S. Constitution, original thirteen colonies, and our founding fathers with the Founder’s Trail game. And take up a quill pen and sign your name to the U.S. Constitution and earn yourself a free pocket Constitution. Stop by one of the food vendors and have a picnic style lunch on the grass. Don’t forget your delicious cupcake dessert from Suite 106 Cupcakery – two time winners of Food Network’s Cupcake Wars. While you eat your meal, enjoy the live entertainment and singing talents of Mariposa Elementary, as well as, theUniversityofRedlands’ Sweet Charity a’capella group. Later, swing to the Memoirs playing old favorites and stomp your heals or just get up and dance with the Mudbugs and their lively Zydeco music.

The Friends of the A.K. Smiley Public Library will be holding an outdoor garden book sale from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There you can find both adult and children’s books and books specializing in American History. This year we also have a Bookfair at Frugal Frigate. Head over to the book store after the event on the 22nd and purchase a book to help support next year’s Constitution Day and the Frugal Frigate. You can shop for 5 days (9/22/12 – 9/26/12) both in-store and online, just mention “Constitution Day” at checkout.
