U of R Visiting Writers Series Presents Dana Spiotta
The University of Redlands Visiting Writers Series: Dana Spiotta
The Creative Writing Department is pleased to announce its second Visiting Writers Series event of Fall 2012, an evening with author Dana Spiotta, author of three novels: Lightning Field (a New York Times Notable Book of the Year, and a Los Angeles Times Best Book of the West); Eat the Document; and Stone Arabia, finalist for the National Book Critics Award and a New York Times Notable Book of 2011. In addition, Stone Arabia was named a best book of 2011 by The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, Entertainment Weekly and Salon.
Ms. Spiotta is a professor in the MFA program at Syracuse University and lives in New York. Writing about Eat the Document in The New York Times, Michiko Kakutani described “a book that possesses the staccato ferocity of a Joan Didion essay and the razzle-dazzle language and the historical resonance of a Don DeLillo novel.”
Please join us for a reading by Dana Spiotta on Tuesday, October 16, at 7:30 in Hall of Letters 100, to be followed by a reception and book signing with the author. This event is free and open to the public.
The Visiting Writers Series will continue in November with a reading by poet Amy Gerstler, author of Dearest Creature, on Thursday, November 15.
