Moon Party at the County Museum
Members of the San Bernardino Valley Amateur Astronomers will set up their telescopes for a Moon Party at the San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands on Saturday evening, September 22, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Club members will bring several sizes and types of telescopes, ranging from refractors to reflectors to ‘compound’ optics, to share close-up views of the night sky. This event, suitable for all ages, is free to the public.
“We’ll be observing the first-quarter moon,” said Chris Clarke, San Bernardino Valley Amateur Astronomers. “This is probably the most detailed, ‘three-dimensional’ view of the lunar surface to be seen through a telescope. The craters and mountains will be jumping out in relief because it will be sunrise on them, and they will cast long shadows.”
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. Parking is free. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org. The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities.
