ArtFest Workshops at The San Bernardino County Museum
The San Bernardino County Museum will hold ArtFest art making workshops with a Dia de Los Muertos theme on Saturday, September 22, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The focus of the workshops will be comic book and graphic novel creation and watercolor techniques. The workshops are free with paid museum admission. Activities are sponsored by The James Irvine Foundation as a part of the museum’s ArtMuse grant initiative.
Artist and photographer Terry Long will conduct informal drop-in water color workshops with Day of the Dead sugar skulls as the design inspiration. Professional comic book artists Robert Mardis, David Arshawsky, Dane Curran, Lou Guevara, and Grant Sutton will show their process, talking with visitors about comic book writing and illustration and conducting informal workshops on this creative art form. “Anyone with an interest in the very popular design, editing, and art that make up comic books will be fascinated to watch these artists at work,” said Michele Nielsen, the museum’s curator of history. “Visitors will have the opportunity to learn basic techniques and to create their own work in this informal setting.”
“The Dia de Los Muertos cultural celebration is coming up at the beginning of November,” said Nielsen. “Visitors can create a piece of art on Saturday the 22nd and then join us on Saturday, November 3 to place their work in our mini gallery for that day.”
